Advocating for the Rights of Crime Victims

Therapy Dogs
A welcome addition to the Victim Advocate Program is the Orange County Sheriff’s Office therapy dogs – Pegasus and Saffron. Pegasus, a golden retriever, joined the squad in 2022. She possesses a soothing demeanor and a love for stuffed toys. Saffron, a yellow labrador retriever, has been a part of the squad since 2020. She has been showing Pegasus the ropes and has consistently provided comfort through her playful personality. These girls offer a calming presence and a welcomed distraction to those who have been impacted by trauma, victims who are being interviewed by law enforcement, and employees who may be experiencing stress from difficult cases. Incorporating therapy dogs within law enforcement changes how we interact with the community. While K-9’s who detect illegal substances or chase suspects are vital functions of law enforcement, de-escalating individuals in crisis or building connections with our citizens utilizing therapy dogs can be just as impactful.
Chaplain Program
Whatever the need…we’ll be there! Being a victim to a crime is a very traumatic time in ones life. Sometimes a Mental Health Expert is not able to provide all of the assistance you may require. At those times, we call on one of our many agency chaplains who represent a number of denominations and faiths. This program supports emotional and spiritual relations to those who need it. The chaplains upon request graciously assist victims and their families with death notifications, stress management, and a number of other services.
